What do SKR slanted seat tilting disk check valves and aircraft have in common?

VAG SKR

Check valves are opened by the medium flowing through. Depending on the design of the disk, the valve opens fully at different flow velocities: The SKR slanted seat tilting disk check valve made by VAG has been designed like the wing of an aircraft.

Due to this design, the valve disk is fully opened even at minor flow velocities and the flow resistance (ZETA value) is reduced as compared to that of a not fully opened disk. This feature results in a significantly lower loss of energy and the entire plant can be operated more cost-efficiently.

Pressure differences result from the flow of the medium around the convex SKR disk which is shaped like an aircraft wing. They generate lift at the disk, which supports the opening of the disk and/or its being held open. On the upper surface, a vacuum is generated which keeps ‘pulling’ the disk upwards. On the lower surface, a higher pressure is generated at the same time which pushes the disk upwards.
