Products: 2 x 16“ VAG RIKO® Plunger Valves
At the Shepaug Reservoir Dam in Connecticut, USA, a 16“ resilient seated gate valve regulating flows from the base of the dam failed allowing 25 mgd to flow freely draining the reservoir faster than it could be filled. The gate valve application was incorrectly used for this type of operation and installed over 20 years ago. The City of Waterbury has a binding legal agreement that required to flow certain amounts of water to feed the Shepaug River throughout the seasons.
The VAG team shared solutions immediately after receiving plans of the gate house. They quickly offered a couple of solutions in the form of a plunger valve that would work best. Finally, VAG was awarded to supply 2 pcs. 16“ VAG RIKO® Plunger Valves completely manufactured in stainless steel with hydraulic actuators also manufactured completely in stainless steel, suitable for submerged installation.
The VAG RIKO® Plunger Valves arrived in January 2024 and installation was completed in February. The valves were in great condition upon delivery and the contractor was able to easily install them without any hiccups. The manager of the reservoir is very happy about the performance of these plunger valves from the VAG-Group which allows him to dial in the correct amount of water needed by operating the plunger valve from the hydraulic panel very simply.
