VAG installs “Big Boys” to quench Bangalore's Thirst

The JICA-funded project, valued at INR 600 Crores (just under € 65 bn) aims to improve Bangalore's water supply significantly. Key components of the project include the construction of a jetty, a 775 MLD (megaliters per day = 775,000 m³) Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), booster pumping stations, master balance reservoirs, and a comprehensive distribution system. Water is sourced from the river Kaveri, treated, and transported over 120 km to Bangalore. The project comprises 27 contract packages, with CP-04 focusing on essential infrastructure enhancements.

Both of the installed VAG EKN^® Butterfly Valves with HYsec Hydraulic Brake-and-Lift Unit will perform the function of shut-off valves for non-return protection in the trunk main line of 2 of booster pumping stations located in Harohalli and Tataguni. The water pressure is 25 bar and the diameter is DN 2600. Here for pump safety, a short closing time is required for which the two HYsec Brake-and-Lift units are needed. It is this sheer size and weight, approx. 45 tonnes, which makes these “Big Boys” special.
