In the period from 2008 to 2010, several Erhard plunger valves installed at the Regensburg municipal utility were sent to the VAG Service Center for repair.
What the service technicians found most striking was the considerable amount of sediments from the medium inside the valves. These sediments caused the plungers to operate sluggishly.
After the body and internal parts had been cleaned and sandblasted, the technicians discovered that some parts were damaged by corrosion and had to be replaced.
To be able to make use of the design advantages of the VAG RIKO® Plunger Valve, the Erhard valves were modified in a way that allowed the use of VAG spare parts.
Modifications included the replacement of the quadring, the connecting rod, the connecting rod bearing and the crank as well as the welding on of the guide skids.
