Products: 32 x VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves DN 2000 with UVV safety interlock on one side; 11 x VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves DN 2000 with UVV interlock on both sides
In power plants, the primary and secondary cooling water systems are frequently connected to each other. In the event of a unit downtime, many of the large pipelines have to be man-accessible for inspection – although the pipeline section on one side of the shut-off valves is still pressurised.
To ensure nobody is injured in the event of a failure of the shut-off valves, such systems have to be safely locked according to the VGB Guideline R107:
“(32) Valves in man-accessible pipelines equipped with energy storage devices, drop weights or other quick-closing devices have to be provided with safety devices to ensure that maintenance staff is not exposed to any dangers. Lockable pins can serve as safety devices.”
In these cases, a VAG EKN® Butterfly Valve combined with a UVV safety interlock is a suitable device. In the Vattenfall power plant in Jänschwalde, 32 VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves with one-sided UVV safety interlock (DN 2000) and eleven butterfly valves with double-sided UVV safety interlock (DN 2000) were used.
In the year 2008 the power plant operator confirmed that they were satisfied with the VAG valves installed:
“In our company, hydrants, check valves, gate valves and air valves made by your company are in use besides the numerous VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves, and all of them perform their tasks completely trouble-free. The VAG butterfly valves have been in operation in our plant successfully for many years. We decided in favour of your product due to its excellent quality. (...) Particularly in our power plants (...) VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves meet all the requirements. In the past few years, we have purchased various valves from you which perform essential functions in the operation of our plants. Since 1992, you have supplied (...) EKN® Butterfly Valves with UVV safety interlock for our plants.”
